“Black Beauty” Although thought of as a children’s classic, the author was written for adults. It was one of the first books being narrated by an animal. It tells the story of a horse, black beauty. It begins when black beauty is a young cult, well-loved and happy, galloping freely in a green meadow with his beloved mother, Duchess, and their kind master. However, when his owners are forced to sell him, Black Beauty’s life takes a drastic turn. He faces hard labor and cruelty under various owners, some kind, and others not so much. This book teaches animal welfare, and emphasizes kindness, sympathy and respectful treatment of animals and people.
