Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar

Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar

“Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar” was written by Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875 – 1950) and this edition was published by A. L. Burt Company in 1918. It is the fifth in a series of twenty-four novels. Tarzan returns to Opar, a lost colony of fabled Atlantis, where a massive stockpile of gold remains. Although Atlantis itself sank beneath the waves long ago, the workers of Opar continued to mine the gold. Tarzan is the only one who knows its secret location. However, a greedy Belgian army officer named Albert Werper, working for a criminal known as “the Arab”, secretly follows Tarzan to Opar. During an earthquake, Tarzan loses his memory after being struck on the head by a falling rock in the treasure room. La, the high priestess and servant of the flaming God of Opar, falls in love with Tarzan but becomes enraged when he rejects her. Meanwhile, Jane has been kidnapped by the Arab, and Tarzan must navigate intrigue and danger to rescue her.
