While John Clayton (Lord Greystoke), also known as Tarzan, is away from his plantation home in British East Africa, it is destroyed by invading German troops from Tanganyika. Upon his return, Tarzan discovers the charred remains of his beloved wife, Jane Porter Clayton, among the burned bodies. Maddened by grief and vengeance, Tarzan seeks revenge not only on the perpetrators of the tragedy but all Germans. He embarks on a quest for justice, infiltrating German headquarters, battling enemies, and using his savage tactics to aid the allies. Along the way, he encounters Bertha Kircher, a woman he suspects to be a German spy, and uncovers secrets related to his mother's locket. Tarzan's vendetta against the Germans leads him to confront Captain Fritz Schneider, the actual commander of the forces that destroyed his estate.” It is the 7th book in the Tarzan series. It was written by Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875 – 1950) and illustrated by J. Allen St. John. This edition was published by Grosset & Dunlap in 1920.
