The Son Of Tarzan
The Son Of Tarzan
“The Son Of Tarzan” The novel begins ten years after the conclusion of “The Beasts of Tarzan.” During this time, Alexis Paulvitch, who had escaped from Tarzan in the previous novel, has lived a harsh life of abuse and disease among tribal people in Africa. He is discovered by a European ship and taken aboard. Meanwhile, Tarzan and Jane have left Africa, married, and settled in London. Their pre-teen son, Jack, dreams of jungle adventures like his father’s but is discouraged by his parents. However, Jack sneaks away to see a trained ape called Ajax (who is actually Akut), an old friend from Tarzan’s youth). Akut had befriended Tarzan in the past, so he is unafraid of white men. Jack’s interest in wildlife leads him to learn the language of the apes. He forms a plan to take Akut back to the jungle. Paulvitch, seeking revenge against Tarzan, agrees to help Jack. Together, they escape to an African port where Paulvitch attacks Jack. In this novel, the fourth in the series, the main character is not Tarzan himself but his son, who becomes known as Korak. This book, the 4th in the Tarzan series, was written by Edgar Rice Burroughs. It was published by Grosset & Dunlap in 1917.
